Menneiden aikojen teknologia

Viime viikolla sarjakuvaväen kahvilatapaamisessa sain tuttavaltani mainion vihjeen mennä vilkaisemaan comicbookplus -sivuja, minne on koottu ikivanhoja lehtijulkaisuja, muun muassa Airboy -sarjakuvalehteä 1940- ja 1950-lukujen taitteesta. Muistelen Airboyn olleen myös edesmenneen Dave Stevensin suosikkeja, ei niinkään historiallisten tosiasioiden tai teknisesti oikeiden yksityiskohtien vuoksi, vaan siksi, että tarinoiden vauhti ja toiminta ei tosiaan paljon hellittänyt. Jopa Birdie, Airboyn erikoislentokone, on kuin lännenelokuvien uskollinen ratsu, jolle sankari jutteleekin ilmoissa lennellessään.

At comic book folks' coffee shop meeting last week, I got a fun tip from a friend, to go see the website Comic Book Plus, where there is a collection of ancient magazines and comics, among others  Airboy comic books from the turn of 1940s an 1950s. I recall this comic book was also one of the faves of the late Dave Stevens, not so much because of historical accuracy or technical details, but because the stories never slowed down their action. Even Birdie, Airboy's special aeroplane, is like a faithful steed in the western movies: the hero even talks to it while airborne.
